Our Mission

Founded in the summer of 2018, Viridian Strings was established with a passion for chamber music performed with the beautiful backdrop of Northern Michigan. Artistic directors Kyle Stachnik and Joseph Skerik both are graduates of the Interlochen Arts Academy, and with an extensive combined history in the Grand Traverse area, decided to establish a collective of some of the countries most promising young musicians with a passion for providing high quality chamber music performances across the region. The Viridian Strings convene in Northern Michigan for their annual summer season from the country's top musical institutions such as the Yale School of Music, Juilliard School, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

During the summer of 2020, the Viridian Strings were still able to bring music to Northern Michigan by presenting six outdoor concerts throughout the region. They have presented programs to a variety of audiences throughout the region in non-traditional concert settings such as the Traverse District Public Library, nursing homes, and even under a canopy outside the Leelanau County restaurant Farm Club in conjunction with Interlochen Public Radios “IPR Live” summer music series in the summer of 2021. Their more traditional concert outings have taken place at the Dendrinos Chapel, Elk Rapids First Presbytarian Church, and Corson Auditorium featuring programs consisting of masterpieces of the string chamber literature, works of underperformed and minority composers, and even world premieres of new chamber music commissioned by the Viridian Strings.

Viridian Strings is dedicated to presenting the highest possible quality of performance across the Grand Traverse region by bringing sensational guest  artists into the community, commissioning and arranging new and compelling compositions for the ensemble, and performing in intimate and dynamic venues. viridianstrings.com
